Overview:
Atlantic Provinces Firearms Safety / Hunter Education Course

Eligibility:
Must be at least 13 years of age.

Description:
In New Brunswick, all first-time hunters as well as persons born on or after January 1, 1981, are required to complete Firearm Safety/Hunter Education training before they may hunt in the province.

There are two parts to the course:
1) Canadian Firearms Safety Course (Part A)
and
2) Hunter Education (Part B). Part A is a requirement to obtain a federal Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) in Canada while both Parts A and B are required by first time hunters or persons born after Jan. 1 1981 to purchase a New Brunswick hunting license. The Conservation Education Card is recognized by other provinces and states as proof of having taken hunter education training.

The Courses may be obtained through one of three options:
1) Traditional classroom instruction (minimum of 16 hours);
2) Home Study option (online study and exercises; 18 years of age and older; testing at DNR offices) and;
3) Firearms Safety test challenge (18 years of age and older; Part A only).

For course schedules and registration information please contact your closest DNR Ranger Office (below)
